What is Stellafane?
To some, Stellafane is a yearly convention where amateur telescope makers from all over the globe come to share enthusiasm over their efforts, and take joy in observing the universe. To others, Stellafane is the name of the pink clubhouse designed by Russell Porter and built by the members of the Springfield Telescope Makers back in 1924. In any case, both interpretations of 'Stellafane' (Latin for 'Shrine To The Stars') are correct. Since the first gathering at Stellafane by 20 or so 'telescope nuts' back on July 3, 1926, the convention has grown so as to attract approximately 1,600 people to the shrine.
Purpose of the Springfield Telescope Makers
"The Springfield Telescope Makers are a non-profit club whose purpose is to promote the art of telescope making, the joy of viewing celestial objects, and the promotion of friendship in a common bond."
