Brian is using a carbo stone to bevel the edge of his mirror blank. We do this to avoid chipping pieces off the edge of the tool when working. Usually a 1/8th to 1/4 inch bevel, at 45 degrees is needed.

We were delighted to have club members Patrick & Steve down from Sudsbury in Ontario, Canada. Patrick has been working away at home on his mirror and brought a beautifully ground out disk to class. He has a pitch lap and is off and polishing.

We didn't have any test equipment on hand this weekend, but Keith found plenty to do. Dave Kelly was observing at Kitt Peak, how could he miss mirror class for that?

Leadership in Action
Our fearless telescope making class leader, Francis O'Reilly, broke down on his way up to Stellafane this morning. Past class leader Ray Morits filled in and pretty much ran the whole show.

Ray, a Stellafane club member and a past leader of the mirror class, pretty much ran the whole show today. Going between the Pavilion and the Bunkhouse can be exhausting. Despite a tall cup of coffee, Ray is taking a well deserved break.
