4.5-Inch f/3.6 Travel Scope

Built by Guido Fuhrmann of Germany

I would like to present my first DIY dobson to your community. For my research how to build a dobson I found your page very helpful. Especially the newt for the web- calculator which I really like to use.

This small 4,5" f3,6 travelscope ment to be just a study object in preperation for building a 10" f8 lowrider dobson. My intention was to gather enough experience with this little scope before I make a big one. After reading "The Dobsonian Telescope" by David Kriege and Richard Berry (many thanks to both for this wunderful book! ;-)) ) I felt fit enough to give it a go. The result was this well balanced cute littel travelscope. For it is always tricky to find a stable table for small telescopes like this I decided to construct the telescope-case a bit higher and attach a three foot stand underneath. The nice side effect was that I had the chance to add two drawers for all the equipment I need. To avoid running into the scope when its dark the three little feet can be illuminated with three red LEDs. The LEDs are sitting in the top of the case. Two further LEDs illuminate the top drawer with the eyepices.

The whole concept is surprisingly stable and great fun observing the sky. I woun´t miss it on my further holliday trips any more.
