The Founders: Guy Elbert Baker

Founder Guy Baker was born in 1875 in Bethel Vermont, and was a contemporary of Russell Porter at Jones and Lamson Machine Co. When Porter started the first mirror class in the basement of Jones and Lamson in September 1920, Baker soon joined in, working on a 9-inch mirror.

Guy Baker was present at the founding meeting of "The Telescope Makers of Springfield" on December 7, 1923. He died in 1969 at the age of 95 in Springfield Mass., and is interred in the Oakland Cemetary in Springfield, Vermont.

CHARLESTOWN, NH - The funeral of Guy E. Baker, 95, of Charlestown, who died Thursday in Springfield, Mass., was held Sunday at the Congregational Church here, with the Rev. Newell E. Bishop, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Springfield, Vt.

Mr. Baker was born in Bethel Vt., and had been employed by the Jones & Lamson Machne Co. in Springfield, Vt.

Survivors include his wife, the former Alice Williams of Springfield, Mass., and three daughters, Mrs. Edward J. Powers and Mrs. Myrtle Campbell, both of Springfield, Mass., and Mrs. Albert Tompkins of Taconic, Conn.
