The Founders: Roy Jabez Lyon
[1948-Aug-18] SPRINGFIELD - Roy Jabez Lyon, 67, died suddenly August 12, of a heart ailment while vacationing at York Harbor, Maine.
He was born January 17, 1881, in Rochester, the son of Jabez Walter and Nellie (Kinsman) Lyon.
Mr. Lyon was employed by Jones and Lamson Machine Co., for 44 years until his retirement two years ago. He was a charter member of the Springfield Mineralogical Society, and a member of the St. John's Lodge, F. and A. M. He was present chaplain of the Sons of Union Veterans and had held all offices and been active in the Methodist church.
He is survived by his wife, Eva May, whom he married June 27, 1906, in Rochester, before coming to Springfield to live; two brothers, George Lyon of Montpelier, and Claude Lyon, of Newport; five sisters, Mrs. Roy Jacobs, of Springfield, Mrs. Grace Welch of Bennington, Miss Vesta Lyon, and Mrs. Ruth Rochford, of Rochester, and Mrs. Florence Richardson, of Charlestown, N. H.; and nieces and nephews.
Masonic funeral services were held at the Memorial Chapel, Sunday, at 2 p. m. with Rev. Merle Stone of the Methodist church officiating. Burial was in the Randolph Center cemetery. The bearers were Eugene Randall, Charles Bliss, Frank Bell, and Francis Hoisington.
