2018 Hartness House Workshop

We are pleased to offer a pre-Stellafane workshop all day on Thursday, August 9th, at the historic Hartness House Inn and Hartness-Porter Museum of Amateur Telescope Making located in Springfield, Vermont. This work is jointly sponsored by The Antique Telescope Society. Proceeds will support the Hartness-Porter Museum of Amateur Telescope Making, which is run by volunteers from the Springfield Telescope Makers. While associated with the Stellafane Convention, this is a separate event and separate registration and fees apply.

Continuing a series begun in 2009, this year's Hartness House Workshop theme, organized in collaboration with members of the Antique Telescope Society, is Antique Telescopes, Observatories, and Related Equipment.

While this workshop will also be the Antique Telescope Society annual meeting, the topics covered will be of interest to members and non-members alike. You do not need to be an ATS member to attend. Both ATS members and non-members must register using the Stellafane registration pages (link below). You can register for this workshop there, and if you wish to attend the Stellafane convention, you can also register for that at the same time.

The schedule will include special tours of the associated Hartness Observatory and Hartness-Porter Museum of Amateur Telescope Making.

Speakers and topics for both the daytime workshop and evening banquet are listed in the 2018 Hartness House Workshop Program (PDF).

Registration and coffee start at 8:30 AM.
The presentations will start at 9:00 AM sharp on Thursday, August 9th.

  • Workshop, $80, includes coffee breaks and lunch.
  • Dinner, $50, including keynote lecture by Owen Gingerich, professor emeritus at Harvard University.
  • Full Time Students, $45 for Workshop and $35 Dinner/Keynote.
